Musicogenic Epilepsy: Is It In You? While searching the AOL homepage for something to write a blog about, the Weird News link caught my eye. An article, Brain Surgery Lets Woman Enjoy Music, was posted on January 18, 2008. After further reading it stated that Stacey Gayle would get as many as 10 grand mal seizures a day and the cause for these seizures were from the music of a reggae and hip-hop artist, Sean Paul.
Finishing the article I started to question myself, What if I had been diagnosed with Musicogenic Epilepsy? Would I still be listening to Aaron Watson, Wade Bowen and Randy Rogers Band if I knew they were the cause of my seizures? I did not even know there was a condition called Musicogenic Epilepsy but know I do. Now how many of you have a favorite artist or band? If you were diagnosed with this condition, would you still listen to their music knowing that when you listened you would have seizures? Do you think the government will know consider reggae and hip-hop a hazard to your health, like cigarettes?

it would be interesting know if every case of this "musicogenic epilepsy" was caused by the music of Sean Paul...i mean it would make sense.
Looking on in "weird news" for a blog topic is a great idea. I'll probably try that for my next blog.
This is really something else. I think that the volume that people listen to music might be more of a reason for the seizures but the bass in the hip-hop could add to it
Heck no!! I would cut them artist loose so fast... but that is really interesting that music can cause such a brain disorder.
I agree with Austin. I think this disease is only caused by Sean Paul... lol
thats crazy, yeah thats a good idea about the werid news
